Are You Ready to Retire? A Simple 3-Step Retirement Readiness Check

Most retirement conversations start with a number.

How much do I need?

₹2 crore? ₹5 crore? ₹10 crore? … $1 Million ? $5 Million ? $10 Million?

But here's the problem:

A retirement corpus can tell you whether you have enough money. It doesn't tell you whether you're ready for retirement.

Before focusing on the number, try this simple 3-part check.

1. Financial Safety

Could your retirement plan survive a major surprise?

Ask yourself:

✓ Do I have adequate health insurance for my family?

✓ Do I have enough liquidity for a large unexpected expense?

✓ Would a ₹10 lakh or $10K shock derail my retirement plans?

If you answered "No" to any of these, your foundation may need strengthening.

2. Financial Freedom

Can your money support the life you want?

Ask yourself:

✓ Does my portfolio generate enough to cover future expenses?

✓ Is it growing faster than inflation?

✓ Have I planned for goals beyond retirement, such as travel, supporting family, or children's education?

✓ Are my investments reasonably tax-efficient when I start withdrawing from them?

The goal isn't to accumulate wealth.

The goal is to make your wealth work for you.

3. Emotional Readiness

This is the most overlooked retirement question.

If you never needed to work for money again:

What would you do tomorrow morning? Next month? Next year?

Retirement works best when you're retiring to something, not just from something.

Ask yourself:

✓ How will I spend my time?

✓ Have I discussed retirement expectations with my family?

✓ Do I have a sense of purpose beyond work?

A Simple Scorecard

If you answered "Yes" to most questions across all three areas, you're likely moving in the right direction.

If one area feels weak, that's where your attention belongs.

Because retirement readiness isn't just about a corpus.

It's about being financially safe, financially free, and personally ready for what comes next.

Our Retirement Calculator can help estimate the corpus you may need.
